Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a systemic disorder characterized by high level of glucose (sugar) in the blood due to resistant, absolute or relative deficiency of insulin hormone. It is a common disease worldwide, affecting male and female, young and old, black and white, including pregnant women. 

Types of Diabetes Mellitus
1.       Type I DM (Insulin dependent DM)
2.       Type II DM (Insulin resistant DM)
3.       Others e.g. MODY I, II etc
4.       Gestational DM
Symptoms of Diabetes Mellitus
-          Asymptomatic
-          Polyuria
-          Polydypsia
-          Polyphagia
-          Glucosuria
-          Weight loss
-          Blurring of vision 
NB: Diabetes Mellitus is multi-systemic and it can affect any part of the body.
Complications
1.       Blindness
2.       Leg ulcer/wound
3.       Stroke
4.       Renal failure e.t.c
Diagnosis
Regular check-up for blood glucose level
Treatment
Visit your doctor regularly
